Christmas Recap

Good Afternoon,

I had intended to get here before Christmas and at the very least wish you all a Merry Christmas but apparently I failed, when we go home its like nothing else in the world exists and naturally the time flies by! I thought I would come by today and recap our Christmas at home and update a little, not that there is much going on.

We left to go home on the night of the 22nd, Jason worked a full day and I was ready to go as soon as he got home. We put everything in the truck and hit the road! I always expect traffic but we've been so lucky and never actually encounter any on the way home. We managed to avoid the rain until we got about 10 minutes from home which was great, got home and unloaded the truck and just puttered around for awhile before going to bed. Jason had a super early dentist appointment on the 23rd so while he was gone I just sat enjoying the house, especially now that its all decorated for Christmas. It was such a peaceful morning, its was chilly and raining outside, the house was so cozy with the fireplace on.. it was absolutely PERFECT!.

I know I say this all the time but I don't take a second of our time at home for granted, I enjoy every single minute of it. These perfect moments with coffee in hand, I take in every single second of it. 

I actually didn't expect Jason to be gone as long as he was so I unpacked everything, got ready for the day and just enjoyed being at home. When Jason got home we had a bunch of running around to do and because it was miserable out we just wanted to get it over it. I was super excited to hit up Trader Joe's though, I love that store and they aren't readily available everywhere so when I get a chance to go I jump on it. I specifically wanted to go there because I was running out of my new all time favorite tea and its a Trader Joe's brand, and seasonal so I wanted to stock up! When we got there I bought 5 boxes and Jason was looking at me at first wondering if I was serious with the 5 boxes and then as if I was crazy when I assured him this was exactly how many I was getting. We toured around Trader Joe's a bit but as usual it was crazy busy and we wanted to get the rest of our running around finished. 

Of course being the 23rd of December every where was ridiculously busy! We finished our grocery shopping and went home for a quiet night. 

On the 24th I was a straggler who still needed a few stocking stuffers and what a mistake it was to leave that until so late. If I had more patience it probably wouldn't have been so bad but when its impossible to find parking and you cant easily navigate the store because there are millions of people and then you wait in line for a year to pay, it just all takes so much longer than usual. When I was finally finished I couldn't wait to get home. The traffic getting home was a nightmare, and I laugh when I type that because literally Walmart and Target are two minutes from our house but the road taking me home was backed up a country mile, literally. I must have waited 27 lights to turn left.. I couldn't believe it. 

We had decided on Christmas eve we would just make some snacks instead of an actual dinner which worked out well as we finished wrapping and just getting things ready for the next day. Did I mention that it was almost 80 degrees on Christmas eve? It was actually hot, people were out doing their Christmas shopping in shorts and flip flops!! On Christmas Eve we decided to take a drive to look at all the houses decorated for Christmas, we do this a lot through the month of December but on Christmas eve it was particularly odd as Jason was in shorts and flip flops and we had all the windows and sunroof open in the truck. There were some pretty great houses though. 

This street in particular was really good, the people across from this house had a very similar set up. Its so nice when people go all out or make the effort to decorate for Christmas, I think people really appreciate it more than they would ever know, or at least I do. 

I have to say although I could care less for winter it was really hard to get into the Christmas with the weather being so warm. After our drive which did not include the usual Starbucks white hot chocolate due to the weather we came home, put all the presents under the tree and got cozy to watch a Christmas movie. 

Christmas day was wonderful, although it absolutely flew by! Jason and I didn't get up until around 8:30am and didn't finish opening presents until noon! I don't really know how that happened, I guess its part of the joy when its just the two of us, we really enjoyed our gifts and talked over coffee, took our time and just enjoyed the morning. By the time we were finish the idea of breakfast was pretty much off the table sadly which sucks because I really fought for it as Jason didn't want to have breakfast. We just munched on leftover snacks from the night before while puttering around. We got ready for the day and cleaned up the house as much as possible, finding homes for all our new stuff and decided what would stay at home and what would be coming back to the apartment. 

Overall we had a really great day, Jason cooked the turkey in the big easy which I always appreciate because it allows for so much more oven space. It turns out so well in there too! 

Christmas day was also extremely warm, in the high 70s! I know that no one really got winter weather this year, except maybe the mid west but it was just so strange. I always appreciate a good sunset though and Christmas day didn't disappoint! Neither did being able to sit outside and enjoy it. 

Saturday again we had running around to do, we wanted to do some exchanging of sizes on certain items and return a few things. It was convenient to do it at home and just get things done so we figured why not. We weren't out long and then just stayed at home for the rest of the day. Sunday was time to leave sadly, as much as I am so grateful for the time at home it definitely never feels like long enough. We stayed to watch the Patriots game which SUCKED and then got on the road just after 4pm. Again no traffic and we made it back in great time. 

Overall our time at home and Christmas was fabulous! We got back Sunday night and are heading back home on Thursday night of this week. Jason will work the full day and then we will head home for New Years Eve, we figure we will get home in time to get downtown for midnight. We will spend the weekend putting away all the Christmas stuff and just getting organized again. 

Not much else going on truth be told, I did however score some pretty awesome boxing day sales. In the States they don't actually call it Boxing Day (the day after Christmas) but they have all the same sales. I got a Old Navy gift card for Christmas and the nice thing about those is that Gap, Old Navy and Banana Republic are all linked so if you have a gift card for any of them you can use it at any of the stores. I managed to place one big order from all 3 stores online (via one store) and use all the coupon codes and sales! I got 7 items for $100 and saves $164!! SCORE! 

I hope you all have a wonderful Christmas and are enjoying your time with family and friends. The weather took a turn here and is definitely a lot cooler than the weather we left at home, I am not happy about that. But I suppose it is winter so I cant complain about weather in the 40s and 50s! 

I don't know if I will get back here before New Years but if not I hope you all have a safe and Happy New Year! I have high hopes for 2016!!

Catch Up & The National Tree Lighting

Well well well.. is there anyone still out there? I cant believe its been a month since I've blogged.. I don't think that has ever happened around here. If it has than its been a really long time since.

I cant really explain why I haven't been around, I just didn't feel like writing. I felt like I didn't have anything to say and forcing myself to come and write about things that I didn't care about didn't make sense. I knew that I wasn't giving up on the blog forever but I just needed some time to regroup and get to a place where I wanted to write. Truth be told I cant say that I'm there yet, wanting to be here and write all the time but I did want to catch up on a few things here because this isn't a place just to fill you in, its a place for me to document my life and have somewhere to come back and remember things.

We went home over Thanksgiving which was amazing and much needed, its hard to describe how great it is to be home to someone who gets to be home all the time. I look so forward to our time there, I feel so at peace, I sleep better.. everything just feels so much better. We decorated the house for Christmas as we are going home this year and I cant begin to tell you how excited I am for that! We actually decorated the outside of the house for the first time as well and it was so much fun. We didn't do anything too extravagant but we put up lights, garland and bows! It was so strange to be decorating the house for Christmas in shorts though. As I'm sure most of you know everywhere has been seeing unusually warm weather for quite sometime.

We put up the a Christmas sign as well, and there is a wreath on the door you just cant really see it. 

We were there for 5 days which was absolutely amazing, I don't take one second of it for granted but in the end its still really hard to leave. We have been really lucky traffic wise driving to and from home which is also a huge bonus. 

Once we got back from Thanksgiving we had lots of Christmas things to look forward to around Maryland and I had high hopes that being busy would make the time fly. I cant say that has been the case but we have definitely been up to some fun stuff. I plan to share all of that with you guys in a few posts but I didn't want to start this one off with being 10 pages. 

Back in November Jason and I entered a lottery in hopes of getting tickets to the National Tree Lighting in Presidents Park DC. You cant just purchase tickets, there are so many people who want them that you had to enter the lottery and just hope. We found out that we got tickets on the 5th of December I believe and we were super excited to attend. 

After doing a little reading on the website they honestly didn't make it sound too great, so we went in with very low expectations. Jason got off work early and we headed into DC, we got a Starbucks and toured around on our way to get in line. I will have to say that their setup was actually extremely efficient and we managed to get through the line and security very quickly. Because of the recent events in California as you can imagine security was over the top, I believe there was just as many cops, military and secret service as their was civilians. The buildings surrounding Presidents Park where the lighting ceremony was held were all lined with snipers, I wont lie it was a little intense. 

While we waited for the show to start they have choirs all over singing to the crowd, it was great! It didn't seem like such a long wait when you were being entertained. It was also an absolutely beautiful day! Sadly not many of my pictures turned out because it was dark, I have a video though of Miss Piggy and Michelle Obama reading Twas the Night Before Christmas that I will try and insert! 

The ceremony was hosted by Reese Witherspoon which was really neat and there were lots of wonderful performers such as Fallout Boy, Aloe Blacc, Andra Day, Bellamy Young and my personal favorite Trombone Shorty! There were many more as well, including the Obama's which was pretty exciting. 

After the show was over we were absolutely FROZEN so we decided to walk around a bit and check out a few of the monuments in the dark before getting a late dinner. If you've never been to DC as I have said before it is absolutely amazing, and the monuments lit up at night do not disappoint. The Lincoln Memorial is still my favorite but check out the World War II Memorial lit up at night.

I believe this hotel is called the Willard Hotel, this place is absolutely AMAZING and I want to stay there. 

We grabbed brick oven pizza before heading home and toured around DC a little. It was a really nice to just take it all in on such a beautiful night and really get into the Christmas spirit. 

So that was one of the few outings we have had recently, I plan to share a few of them with you this week.

Hello October!

Good Afternoon!!

It is officially October and I can't tell you how happy that makes me! There is something so wonderful about this month every year and I just don't know how to put it into words!

Although we are currently getting a ton of rain due to a Nor'easter and are in for a weekend of nasty weather thanks to hurricane Joaquin I have to say the air still smells crisp and perfect! I am currently sitting on the couch with a tea in a big sweatshirt with all the windows open enjoying the smell of the fresh air and cool breeze! There is just something about October! 

I am dreaming of hot drinks, scarves and beautiful walks outside in boots! I cant wait to start knocking more items off my fall bucket list because you bet I've already started! This time of year is just magical! 

While I'm here I also thought I would share a few things that have been floating around my phones camera roll that I have been meaning to somehow incorporate into a post but it just hasn't come together so I am sticking them in right here because why not..?

As you know the other night there was a lunar eclipse, I didn't care all that much about it to be honest and I didn't figure we would be able to see it anyways because it was super cloudy here.. none the less the clouds parted and we laid in bed and watched the whole thing! I didn't bust out my camera to take pictures or anything but I snapped this one from my phone in bed just so you could see how clear we could see things and how huge the moon was! 

The Hazel & Olive Boutique posted this on instagram the other night, and I'm pretty sure I need this shirt! 

Jason and I ran out to Walgreens the other night to try and find him another ankle brace because he is still in a lot of pain. While I was waiting for him to catch up I came across these!! I LOVE candy corn and so these totally intrigued me, let me just tell you.. THEY ARE AMAZING! If you can get your hands on a some, do so! 

Speaking of treats has anyone been able to find the pecan pie M&Ms? I have looked literally everywhere and they are no where to be found! You can get them on Amazon but for an OUTRAGEOUS price. I mean seriously, $13.00 a bag? Come on, even I have my limits!

Fall Bucket List 2015

I am soooo happy that it is officially fall and what is even better is that the weather is actually following suit! I expected it to be hot as hell at least through October but to my surprise the humidity is gone and the crisp air has graced us with its presence! I was so ready for this weather and this time of year, there is something about it that is absolutely magical! Fall has always been and will always be my absolutely FAVORITE time of you!

I thought I would stop by today and share with your my fall bucket list! I had intended to do this yesterday but the day literally flew by! You know those days where you look at the clock thinking it will be whatever time and its actually 2 or 3 hours later.. that was yesterday for me! Not that I am complaining I had a really good day, but I didn't get all that I wanted to accomplish done with the whole.. where the hell did the last 4 hours go!

Yes I am going to share all the fall sayings I can because I seriously am so thrilled with the fact that its finally here and we plan to make the absolute most of it this year! A lot of years we plan to do a ton of fall things and then Jason works 7 days a week 12 hours a day and it doesn't happen. Or like last year we didn't get to go home much and were in the middle of a huge city and there isn't exactly a pumpkin patch on every corner! This year however things are quite different and I cannot wait to make the most of fall and all it has to offer!! I have put together a fall bucket list and I thought I would share it with you today!

1. Visit an Apple Orchard

2. Visit a Pumpkin Patch

3. Have an Apple Cider & Apple Cider Donut 

4. Enjoy a Caramel Apple Spice Drink from Starbucks (its one of their best drinks!)

5. Take a scenic fall drive (or a million)

6. Do some kind of fall craft

7. Bake at least one old fall recipe & and one new (and share it with you guys)

8. Have a bonfire! 

9. Decorate the apartment (I usually don't but we'll never be home to decorate our house so this year its happening!!)

10. Burn all the fall scented candles

11. Go to a football game, not necessarily an NFL game.. but we are super close to Baltimore

12. Visit a corn maze (already looked one up)

13. Take a walk & explore somewhere new. 

14. Attend a fall fair

15. Attend a Veterans Day Parade

17. Stomp on crunchy leaves (because I'm 5)

Labor Day Weekend 2015

Good Afternoon!!

I know the first rule of blogging everyone always says is to have a routine and post generally around the same time, I use to really try to make that a priority but right now I feel good about getting a post out everyday! I did intend to post today as it was on my 'to do' list and I am scratching it off as we speak!

I hope you all had a fabulous Labor Day weekend, as I mentioned last week we headed home on Thursday night as Jason had a dentist appointment on Friday morning. I cant tell you how much easier it is to be in Maryland knowing that we get to go home so often! Not to mention because we get to go home as much as we do I don't feel like the time we are there just flies by, we really enjoy it and don't spend the whole time cleaning and getting things done around the house because we get to be there so often, I am so very grateful.

I had everything ready on Thursday night when Jason got home from work so we were able to get right on the road. I anticipated that it was going to be a really long drive being the long weekend and all, plus after years of driving hours and hours and HOURS being in the car more than two hours always feels long. It was a BEAUTIFUL night...

We stopped in Virginia and grabbed subway and then made our way home... we were lucky to hit no traffic on the way and made really good time but none the less it felt like a long drive. It was however really nice to get home and not have a ton of unpacking to do and we didn't shut down the house like we usually do knowing it wouldn't be long until we were back again so the transition was seamless! 

Our time home was so great, the weather was alright but we didn't have anything planned so we just made the most of our time there. I know I say it all the time but I am definitely happiest while home, I sleep so much better there, probably courtesy of the king size bed and all the room.. I love getting up in the morning to the smell of coffee, everything is just perfect! 

Saturday morning the weather was perfect to get out and do something, it was overcast but with no humidity so we decided to go to the driving range. We always enjoy going but this summer we have really gotten into it and go as much as we can. We plan to take advantage to living basically on a golf course here as well. Before you say anything about my golfing attire I will just explain myself.. yes I should be wearing legit shoes but even with no humidity the summers are HOT in the south, its a waste to do your hair and wear shoes no matter what you are doing. Period. 

Although Jason thinks it totally affects my game, I don't see how.. although I am not a pro star golfer by any means! 

While we were home I also managed to get some fall decor ready for the house, and although it may be a little early I was so excited about the wreath that we decided to hang it before we left! I really love the way it turned out, a little pop of color in the middle. Is it just me or is anyone else ready for fall? I literally cannot wait. I say this while it is literally 100 degrees today! 

Overall we had a fabulous weekend and believe or not we left yesterday around 2:30pm and we didn't hit any traffic AT ALL, I was expecting we would sit in traffic for hours because of the long weekend and literally.. nothing! In fact I think we might have made our best time ever, great way to end the weekend. 

I was glad to get back early last night because we decided to bring back some fall stuff because we don't anticipate going home until the beginning of October and we weren't sure what the weather would be like here before than, better to be prepared! Anyways we got home and as we started to put things away I went into panic mode about not having enough room for things! I managed to get things mostly put away and then made a huge 'to do' list for today in order to get things sorted out today and calm my nerves. 

I have literally spent my day purging, organizing, cleaning and I feel sooooo much better about things. I absolutely HATE clutter, disorganization, and crap being thrown places for the sake of having a home when they really don't belong there. I have rectified that today and feel so much better! 

So I wanted to stop by here and recap our weekend and wish you all a fabulous Tuesday! Yay for a short week! Plus this week is regular season NFL!!!!!!!! The Patriots play the Steelers on Thursday and obviously we couldn't be more excited! I think its going to be a good week!

New Baby & A Nasty Cold

Good Morning,

If you're surprised that I actually made it here today, so am I. I didn't know how the day would play out but I am still feeling pretty crumby so Jason went to get a hair cut and go to the dentist while I putter around the house. When he gets home I need to go replenish my cold medicine stock as it has diminished by my symptoms haven't. Honestly.. who gets sick in the summer?

Anyways we left off yesterday at our 4:30am wake up call on Monday! As I said I wasn't totally surprised that Lindsey went into labor, I suppose neither was Jason because when Dave called his cell phone he flew out of bed answering the phone with "Is it time??" Dave said we needed to hurry and luckily knowing I would be going over there bright and early Monday I had already packed a back pack the night before, so I grabbed my stuff and Jason got his work stuff and we headed out. We had a quick good luck exchange in the front of the house and they were off.

Jason still had some time before he had to be at work so he decided to rest his eyes on the couch...

Chloe decided to join him.. this picture is actually pretty hilarious because Jason isn't a huge dog person and after taking this picture Chloe slowly inched her way over to Jason and was trying to get on his lap! It was hilarious morning entertainment, Jason finally peaked out from under his hat to ask what the dog thought she was doing.. clearly he didn't get that she starts her day with a morning snuggle. 

I couldn't go back to sleep, so I made a coffee and enjoyed Netflix until the girls woke up. Believe it or not Lindsey and Dave left the house at I would say about 5:10am and Colton was born at 6:12am!!!! Lucky we got there when we did as the hospital is about a 20 minute drive away! I wont share too many photos because they aren't really mine to share but I have to let you see a picture of this gorgeous new baby! 

The picture makes him look a lot bigger than he actually is, he is SO TINY and PERFECT!

The girls did visit their new brother but we made our way back to the house after to meet Jason for dinner and get ready for bed. The girls did really well considering they are not use to being without Lindsey and obviously things were a little different than usual. We weren't home long before Jason arrived so the girls wanted to wait, they pulled out their little camp chairs and in true toddler fashion were over the waiting in about 2 minutes!! 

Hilarious! 

We had Chinese food for dinner which was a hit and then had baths and tidied up and waited for Dave to come home for bed time. As it had been an early morning for everyone, the girls and Jason rested while they waited.  

I'm not going to lie this picture melts my heart! 

The following day we saw the baby again and played at the house with the girls, we knew Lindsey and Colton wouldn't be home until Wednesday. We also got to visit the baby again.. let me tell you, I am in love! There is just something about new babies! 

So that was basically our week, after that it was just resting as I am still not feeling well and getting ready to come home! We left last night after Jason got off work, we didn't hit any traffic at all and made it home in exactly 4 hours! 

Jason just got back from getting a hair cut and I am going to get ready so we can head out and grab a few things for dinners and stuff while we are here. Jason has a dentist appointment at 11am which hopefully wont take long and then we plan to putter around town and enjoy the house!

Trip Home August 2015, Part Two

Two posts in two days, you're impressed aren't you? I am.. it definitely hasn't happened in awhile that's for sure! But none the less here I am, and totally ready to recap the second half of our trip for you guys!

Monday morning which was our second morning there we had plans to go white water rafting! I wont lie I have never been and its never actually been on the top of my list of things to do. I was a little anxious that morning not knowing what to expect. We stopped and got a coffee on the way and then headed over to the Nantahala River. We booked our trip through the Nantahala Outdoor Center which was a really great place, there are restaurants there as well as gift shops and stuff definitely a great place for an adventure and a few other activities there.

When we arrived we checked in and then checked out the river, I was actually pretty shocked because the river didn't look as though it would be good for a white water adventure at all.

When it was time to go they had us watch a little video before heading down to the spot where we would put in the river. The video was TERRIFYING. I sat there trying not to cry, sure that I was going to die on this trip. They honestly basically tell you that you are going to fall out of your boat and most likely you will hit a rock and break something or die unless you listen to every single thing they say. I'm a good swimmer but the idea of flipping over in a rushing river that will likely drag you miles.. not fun in my books. Just me? Ok. 

Jason knew I was terrified, he kept trying to assure me it would be fine and I kept trying not to cry. We got our life jackets.. which SMELLED TERRIBLE, the only thing I will say is if you decided to take part in something water related through the Nantahala outdoor center I highly recommend bringing your own life jacket because theirs were disgusting. Anyways we got our paddles and got on the bus to head to the drop in point. 

The first thing I decided was the water was freezing, and that was before I even had two feet in the water! I was terrified and rightfully so.. I didn't change my mind the entire trip! The water was freezing cold, I was absolutely frozen to the point of blue lips, it was terrifying basically. Jason laughed at me the entire way and I have never been happier than to get out of a boat in my entire life! We had a two person inflatable raft that we never flipped which was a blessing and when we arrived at the take out point I asked how cold the water was and they said it was 50 degrees.. 50 DEGREES!

Jason took this picture along with a few videos but he was the primary paddler so it was hard to get good shots, and I was in no condition to focus on taking pictures as I was shaking far too bad. 

Basically the river is dam released and comes for a 200 foot deep lake which is why its so cold, as the morning goes on the water becomes rougher and rougher. By the time we arrived back at the outdoor center I couldn't believe the difference in the water and how rough and high it was. 

We changed and got into dry WARM clothes, and decided to have lunch before we headed off to our next adventure. As I mentioned before there was a restaurant right there so we had some BBQ which is always the way to go. After that we decided to drive up to Fontana Lake/Dam, the drive was absolutely beautiful and the lake was GORGEOUS! If you are ever in the Great Smokey Mountains it is totally worth your time to check it out! 

There was a visitors center there that gave a bunch of history about the dam which was really interesting, you can view some of the information HERE if you are interested. We decided to head back to the cabin because they were calling for rain and we needed to either start a fire and hope to cook dinner before it rained or figure something else out. Sadly it rained as we were getting there but it didn't last long and we managed to still have a fire and dinner which was great! 

I wont lie we were sad to leave the following day, but had a great trip planned home! We decided to drive the Blue Ridge Parkway up through Cherokee, we wanted to end up in around Waynesville because Jason found a gun range where he wanted to shoot. Although it was pouring rain when we left it stopped before we made it into town so we grabbed coffee and toured around a few gift shops, I had the best Maple Latte I've ever had in my life. 

God love Jason who stopped every 5 minutes for me to take pictures. 

Thankfully the day cleared up before we arrived at the gun range. Jason was dying to shoot his guns and I was really worried it wouldn't happen due to weather but thankfully it cleared off. There were two older gentlemen there shooting but otherwise it was quiet.

After shooting we decided to grab sandwiches and get on the road home! 

Sadly about two hours from home we hit some really bad weather and we were driving with it so it didn't get better. 

Basically we couldn't see anything for a long time, and it was absolutely miserable... on a good note we didn't have to water the lawn when we got home! Glass half full. 

The last week of our trip was laid back, we did some touring around town and went to the driving range! 

Yes I golf in flip flops!

While we were home we also started watching Sons of Anarchy because we never got into it while it was on the air and we were looking for a series to watch.. that's another post for another day but I will say.. I am ADDICTED! 

Since we've been back we have just been getting back into the swing of things, catching up on things and with people. Tuesday I spent the day with Ava and Lily, they make any day a good day!

The bag lady, she generally carries a purse but not this many at once! The ensemble wasn't quite complete without her sunglasses either.. obvi! 

So that's our scoop, I'm really sorry for the hiatus, it wasn't my intention but I thought there was a chance there would be some radio silence around here for awhile although I am hoping next week to get back on some sort of schedule and post more regularly again!
