July 4th Trip Home

Good Morning Lovelies!

I am finally starting to feel better and figured it was about time I got it together and came around these parts with a little update from our trip home!

As you remember prior to leaving I was not feeling my best and let me tell you that just progressively got worse! Wednesday night before we left Jason got home late which has yet to happen since we have been here.. go figure! We got in bed around 8:00pm which suited me just fine because I was feeling terrible! God bless cold medicine because the one time it counted it knocked me out and I actually got some sleep before our early rising! We got up and were on the road by 2:00am, I wasn't feeling so bad about it on account that all New Jersey rest stops on the interstate have Starbucks, except they aren't open at two in the freaking morning!!!!! I was NOT impressed!

The drive was really uneventful! We had thought we might encounter bad weather from impending hurricane Arthur but besides a few sprinkles leaving New Jersey it was sunshine and humidity the entire way! We stopped in Virginia for a much needed Dunkin Donuts iced coffee and then were finally home!! I tell ya I have never been more excited to get somewhere.. it was exactly how we left it, home!

I would love to tell you this is where we opened everything up and took a nap but that just isn't the case, Jason had a "to do" list a mile long and we needed to get on it! We managed to get everything taken care of including a great deal on a new table for a deck which wasn't planned at this time but a great deal we couldn't turn down! We landed home around 3:30pm and by that point I needed to rest my eyes! Jason puttered around and I closed my eyes on the couch for 45 minutes, waking up feeling quite refreshed... but still like crap!

As you can see Jason's list of things included finding the perfect beach chair!

That night we headed to one of our favorite places, the Carolina Ale House! This was definitely on our list of places to go when we got home! I knew before getting there that I was having the buffalo chicken sandwich, its so hot it burns your mouth right off but I was desperate to do anything to get rid of this cold!

I wish I could tell you that while we were at the Ale House I enjoyed a nice Blue Moon or something but with the amount of cold medicine I was taking I figured it was probably a bad idea. Sadly.

After dinner we toured around trying to find lobsters! Jason was pretty set that he wanted to have lobster for the 4th of July but was not willing to pay the prices they were asking. After driving around for far too long he finally said screw it and bought one!

Friday was the 4th and much to our surprise pretty much everything was still open! I took a trip to Target and dropped into all the stores surrounding. I was so happy to drive, wander around and see the cheap prices I am use it! It was nothing short of fantastic, minus the fact that I was still feeling pretty crumby! I got a bunch of stuff accomplished and came home to help Jason tape off the railings on the deck so we could paint the following day. Jason had already washed the deck and all that so we were ready to go. We walked around weeding the yard and just getting things done around the house that were a little neglected with us being away.

We had intended to go downtown for fireworks Friday night so we needed to have a semi early dinner and get a move on! Jason was so excited for lobster, truth be told I don't get it at all.. this things are the ugliest suckers I have ever seen and the idea of cracking it out of its shell to eat it seems weird to me. He loved it though!

The corn however was FANTASTIC! Best corn we have had all year!

So we headed down town for fireworks after dinner. I wont lie at this point I was feeling pretty awful and before heading down there I could have easily been convinced to skip it. Once we got downtown feeling crappy or not I was pretty excited to be there. The atmosphere was amazing, live music everywhere, food trucks everywhere, it was awesome basically.. so we had to tour around as much as we possibly could before the fireworks started!

This sand castle was in the park, it was the only one and it was simply amazing!

Happy Birthday America!! There is just something about a huge flag that I love!

The night was amazing.. the weather was absolutely gorgeous! We toured around snacking on things from the food trucks, haha yes we had dinner before we headed down there but come on! I managed to scope out the House of Swank booth and get myself a T shirt! If you live in North Carolina or are from there check them out, their stuff is awesome and their prices are totally reasonable!

This year they decided to do fireworks in two different locations simultaneously so everyone could get a great view. I thought it was a great idea as I assume the show they put on was very similar but Jason felt although we saw a great show he was missing out on what he could hear and not see.

This guy... my world!

I thought the fireworks were simply incredible! Not only are fireworks magical all on their own the fact that Jason loves them so much he instantly turns into an 8 year old child when they begin makes it all the better! I took videos for Terry who Jason works with because he loves fireworks as well and anytime a good show is put on I make sure to capture some of it for Jason to share with him.. so I might as well share it with you as well... OK that isn't going to happen.. it wont load! It was obviously a fluke that it worked last week!

Saturday morning came far too early and I was feeling far worse when I got up! It really took me a lot to get myself moving but I really wanted to be helpful with the deck because I knew it was going to be a lot of work! The weather that morning was PERFECT, it wasn't hot or humid which made it great for painting.. especially so I wouldn't have to listen to Jason whine about the heat.

The painting was fine but the day was pretty awful.. as the day progressed I was feeling worse and worse. I wish I could say that I was more help then I actually was, god love Jason who assured me he couldn't have gotten it done without my help but I feel like I definitely could have done more. It was then that I decided I needed to see a doctor. Sadly mine was not open on the weekend for some reason so I decided to get up first thing on Sunday morning and head over to the Target clinic. Long story short I left there with two prescriptions for a double ear infection and upper respiratory infection. Stellar! The deck turned out great though..

I know the color seems to vary in these pictures but we went with a natural cedar stain and although we weren't sure of it when we started we are so happy with the outcome! The process took a lot longer then I had thought it would but in the end I couldn't be more pleased with the finished product!

Sunday was spent finishing up all the things that needed to be done around the house! Washing the truck, cutting the grass, chatting with the neighbors.. most importantly.. eating Moe's! Sick or not I needed to get my burrito fill before we left the south, it was a must!

The home wrecker burrito.. don't be fooled, I finished that bad boy!

Sunday was the day that made me miss home the most, the reason why I love having a house, why I love our life there! I love our home, and maybe my view is unrealistic of what life would be like there all the time because when we are there neither of us are working and I think part of what I love most is our quality time together! Although I was sick the entire visit and I feel like that put a slight damper on things, I loved our time there. I wish we could be there all the time and spending time there this past weekend made me realize just how much.. but right now its just not the case, and I guess I have to be OK with that.

Sunday ended up flying be, we didn't eat until after 9:00pm and although I really wanted stay up and help Jason with the report for our warranty inspection Monday morning but I just couldn't do it. Sadly I slept terribly that night and when Jason woke me at 8:00am because the warranty guy was there, I was near tears at the thought of getting up and more so knowing we had to leave that day.

The warranty inspection went as expected, I swear those guys are all morons and expect the homeowner to accept their crap excuses and do their job... word to the wise, DON'T BUY A KB HOME! Anyways Jason dealt with all that while I sat on the couch in my sweats hacking up a lung.. literally! When all that was said and done I got it together and headed to Target. Part of my disappointment in being sick during our visit was that our neighbors had a new baby girl at the end of May and I was dying to see her, but obviously that wasn't going to happen, so I wanted to make sure we got them a baby gift regardless. Let me just tell you the baby section at Target is downright dangerous.. I couldn't a bought a million things!

Baby girl head bows.. I die!

Naturally Monday morning flew by and we needed to get on the road. We left around 2:00pm but had to make a quick turn around so we really didn't get on the road until 2:30pm. We were already exhausted getting on the road so stopping in at our favorite Dunkin Donuts for iced coffee was a must.

I think Jason is addicted now too.. which makes me feel less bad about my own caffeine requirements during the day! Thankfully we stopped because little did we know we were in for one hell of a trip! Virginia, DC and Maryland traffic SUCKED!!!!! We should have been home by 10:30pm and we didn't get here until almost 1:00am. The traffic was HORRID and I couldn't have been more glad to just get here and unload everything from the truck!

Tuesday morning Jason headed off to work and I helped Dave and Lindsey move in! I am finally starting to feel better thankfully and I just got a call from Mel who is here and ready to move in as well. So I am going to cut this short so I can get ready to run down and help them as soon as they are finished with their walk thru!

I think having everyone here is going to help with my feelings of being here, I hope so at least! I am going to try and be better about being here but I will be honest its going to be less often then everyday.. the nice weather is here and part of me being able to deal with being here is going to be taking advantage of summer and everyone being here!

I hope you all had a fantastic holiday! I am officially counting down the days until we go south again!!

Quick Update

Good afternoon all,

I haven't been around this weekend because we have been home and I have been deathly ill, let me tell you this cold hasn't gone anywhere and as the days went on and I had no voice and things just got progressively worse I finally said to Jason I needed to see a doctor. For some reason my doctor wasn't open this weekend so I made a mad dash for the Target clinic first thing Sunday morning! Turns out I have a double ear infection as well as an upper respiratory infection, yay me! I tell you, yesterday and today have just been the worst!

I can't even tell you how uber pissed I am that I couldn't have looked forward to coming home anymore then I was and this whole damn time I have been sick, I suppose though if you are going to be sick you would want your own bed and what not.. and I have.

We are heading out in a couple of hours, I plan to cry, kick and scream.. you think I am kidding. I have strategically been unpacking stuff Jason has packed and hiding it all over the house so we will have to come home again sooner. Again.. you think I kid.

I knew it would play out that I miss home now more than ever, being sick or not we went downtown for fireworks and all that for the 4th of July which I will recap all that jazz for you this week. We have a beautiful deck to enjoy, washing the truck in the driveway, just in general having this amazing house and having to live in a crappy apartment.. what the hell are we doing? Ugh!

Anyways I've got a few things to do before I pitch my massive "I'm not leaving and you cant make me" fit (I've tried once already and it seems like I'm really not being given much of a choice). I will catch y'all on the flip side and fill you in on our weekend home!

Happy Birthday America!!

Happy 4th of July y'all!

We arrived in Raleigh yesterday morning around 10:00am and let me tell you I couldn't be happier to be here! The house is fine, the grass needs to be cut but we expected that! We spent our whole day yesterday touring around and getting all the things we needed for our time here and what we plan to accomplish! We ended up getting a new patio table as well and that was just a bonus.

Prior to leaving we were concerned about how Hurricane Arthur may have effected our drive and time here but I have to tell you, we caught a little bit of rain heading out of New Jersey around 3am and then we had a little bit of rain on and off throughout the day yesterday but that was it.

I'm not exactly sure what took place here in Raleigh over night because we went to bed super early but I will tell you that we woke up to sunny sky's all over the state! It seems from the news that thankfully Arthur left North Carolina in tact and is working its way up the coast with a ton of rain. I checked the weather this morning in Jersey City and not only because they are due to get a ton of rain today.. I am glad I am not there.

As I'm sure you know I am over the freakin' moon to be home. I spent a lot of yesterday trying not to cry when thinking about leaving. There is a part of me that thinks coming back here was a bad idea because I already know I am going to be a mess leaving. This is where my heart it, where I want to be and plain and simple I freakin' hate New Jersey. But I guess I will cross that bridge when I come to it Monday.

Sadly I am super sick, I woke up this morning much worse than I was yesterday and I can barely speak at all. I swear I don't know what is going on.. who gets sick in the summer? I got a lot of sleep last night, more than I have since we left I swear so I am going to mosey on over to Target and look for something a little bit stronger to take.. plus spend the day there (but really).

So that's our scoop, I am going to get dressed and head out for awhile and Jason has a few things he wants to do around here. Jason got a lobster for his dinner tonight, although he almost had a stroke paying $15 a pound for the ugly little bugger! We are planning on heading downtown around 6pm to scope out House of Swank (I came across them on Instagram awhile ago, its all NC swag and I now much see it) and then we are going to stay put for fireworks at 9:30pm. I might need a nap before then because I feel like hell but we are going to make it happen!

I hope you are all either celebrating the 4th today in the biggest and best way possible or getting ready for your weekend!!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY AMERICA!! LET FREEDOM RING!

Summer Sickness at its Finest!

Well I don't know exactly what is going on with me but if I had to venture a guess I would say strep throat maybe. When I woke up yesterday feeling awful I made to go out and get cold medicine and a pair of shorts (they were on sale). I drank tea and honey all day yesterday, I took as much medicine as the box allowed without risk of liver damage and I went to bed early. Although I did not sleep well last night I managed to sleep this morning for awhile, I didn't even hear Jason get up and go to work which has never happened here. Having said all that I woke up feeling way worse, I don't think I have had an ear ache like this since I was a kid and whats worse is its both of my ears.

Today has consisted of tea with honey, lots of cold meds and rest. We are getting up at 2am to get on the road to go home and as much as I cant wait to blow this pop stand I am dreading the drive a little now feeling so awful. I generally don't sleep on a road trip because I feel like its unfair to Jason who drives, but this trip may be an exception.. I'm taking my pillow I know that much.

We are hoping leaving at that time we will get home by 10am and have a ton of stuff to do, or so Jason says. I just want to go to Target, by myself, for the day. Ha! But seriously. I can't wait to be at home, the idea of sleeping in our own bed tomorrow night makes me happier than happy!

So sue me but this post is going to suck because typing this has taken about all of the little energy I had. I just want to feel better for tomorrow, and just in general. Who gets sick in the summer anyways? I mean what the hell.

I will let y'all know that we made it back to the south tomorrow.. if I am not to jittery from excitement to type! We're going to be home tomorrow... best feeling ever!

Happy Canada Day!

Happy Canada Day everyone!!!

I'd like to tell you I am in red and white somewhere on a lake drinking beer and enjoying this fantastic day, anxiously awaiting tonight's fireworks.. but that is just not the case. I am at home on the couch with a terrible awful cold! Yesterday I started to feel like I was getting a scratchy throat but I absolutely never get sick (minus the plague I caught on the plane on the way home from Peru) but as the night went on it got worse and worse! While we were at the grocery store last night I looked for a small pack of halls at the check out, and apparently they don't make those anymore.. wtf? So this morning I woke up with a fever, body aching terribly, horrible sore throat and both ears aching.. FANTASTIC! Sadly I had no choice but to go over to the pharmacy and stock up on cold meds because I refuse to be sick to go home! I tell ya!

I did however plan to post today about Canada today in honor of Canada Day and sick of not I am here to do it! I definitely miss home, mostly my family but there are a few things that just remind me of home and make me nostalgic. Canadian money is way better.. come on..

Awhile ago on Pinterest I started a board "Canada Eh" because I definitely come across things that remind me of home that I think are worth pinning, some of them really crack me up to be honest and some give me a little bit of an education. For the record.. just so we get it out of the way right now as well, I do not say "eh", on a rare occasion when I am basically turning a statement into a question I may end a sentence with "eh" but it is very rare. Having said that having not lived in Canada for a long time I notice other peoples Canadian accent and use of the term. Even when my parents visit, I notice their Canadian accent, haha!

Living in the States you hear a lot of jokes about Canada or me being Canadian and truth be told I use to get offended, pissed off even because one most often the stuff people were saying was their own ignorance, not even true and I would usually retort with something like... "I'd be jealous if I were you too.." I still mean that! But now I just laugh, and really I hear it less often! I'm proud to be Canadian, there are so many wonderful things about that country and I plan to share a few of them with you right now.. just in case you didn't know!

Oh Ontario and your fabulous selection of wines.. how grateful I am for thee! For quite some time it has been on my to do list when we go home to visit a Niagara vineyard, sadly we just haven't gotten there at the right time of year for awhile.

Take that Maine, I believe we rule the world of Maple Syrup! Basketball, the snow blower (naturally), the snowmobile (naturally), The Avro Arrow, the light bulb, Anne of Green Gables.. do I even need to go on? Yahtzee!!

I miss milk in a bag! American's totally don't get it but I once lived in a world that didn't have little crusty pieces of milk on the container because it wasn't a container it was a bag.. genius! I don't drink milk anyways but its just the principle!

My childhood was that of a typical Canadian, I grew up on Toronto so we got winter that lasted forever.. however when you're a kid it doesn't seem all that bad. Some of my favorite memories as a kid are playing outside with my Dad in the snow, or sitting by the wood stove making crafts. You pretty much had to bet that whatever you were going to be for Halloween you had to buy the costume a size bigger because likely you would have to wear it over your snow suit. You were most likely addicted to Tim Hortons at a very young age and your car would generally have a cup holder dedicated strictly to change for coffee. Its pronounced ZED not ZEE.. get over it! I don't know if its just American's or what but Canadians invented Smarties and they are not in a little plastic rolls.. THOSE ARE ROCKETS!

This one cracks me up. Maybe its because I am from Toronto but I have never really understood the whole, people from Ontario think they are the center of the universe. I remember the first time we lived in Saskatchewan being treated badly by people who saw my Ontario license plate and being absolutely horrified, they didn't even know me. I'm from a city, I am use to city conveniences and I like it.. that doesn't make me a bad person. I bet if you grew up in a city and that was all you knew you would feel the same way! I suppose not all Canadians are nice!

Speaking of being nice, Canadians are definitely some of the nicest people you will ever meet. I mean I now live in the south and so I am a little bias because southerners would give you the shirt off their back, I think you would be hard pressed not to find Canadian that would do the same. Growing up in that environment was amazing, but it kind of makes it hard to realize and accept not everyone is like that.. people don't always use their manners and hold doors, etc. Canadians... the friendliest of the friendly.

But seriously.

Now like I said, I grew up in Toronto so I went to Blue Jay & Argonauts games growing up, I love Swiss Chalet and ketchup chips! The Skydome will always be the Skydome, I will forever refuse to call it "The Rogers Center", I've been to Wonderland countless times although I don't go on rides, Nathan Phillips Square and Toronto's own version of Time Square, Young & Dundas Square!

Here are some pictures from my neck of the woods.

The Marilyn Monroe buildings across from Square One.

Sam the Record Man on Young Street!

Oh how I miss reading the Toronto Newspapers.

HOME!

I'm not going to lie I miss the city lights, its probably one of the things I miss the most.

This post was probably mostly rambling.. tidbits of information that remind me of home but on days like today that's what I think of. All the things I miss about home, that reminds me of home.. because I'm not there, and really its not my home anymore but big piece of my heart will always be in Canada, without a doubt.

So for all of you not working this fine Tuesday because you have a country totally worth celebrating, have a beer for me! Make the most of it, enjoy the fireworks and be thankful you live somewhere so amazing!

Fireworks, with the BEST view in the house!

Didn't think the answer would come so quickly did you? I kind of left you hanging on the last blog but it was for two reasons, one being that the last post was already picture heavy and two because I am not sure uploading the video I have will work and I spent a lot of time on the last post and therefore I didn't want to risk losing it screwing with things I'm not sure will even work.

SO! Last night we were laying in bed and all the sudden this unbelievable racket started.. Jason and I went out on the balcony only to see that they were putting on a huge fireworks show in NewYork, but right on the Hudson so we had a front seat view! I didn't know they were planning on doing it, and I am going to assume it for was Pride weekend because I'm not sure what else was going on in the city this weekend to warrant a fireworks display like that!

Naturally if you know Jason at all you know that he LOVES a good fireworks display and therefore we threw on some decent clothes and ran downstairs to check it out close up!

Again with the grainy iPhone pictures! In my defense I literally had two second to throw on clothes and run downstairs! I wasn't even fast enough for Jason to wait for me.. I couldn't dig out the camera that is potentially dead anyways.. I just couldn't.

That damn light was totally in my way!

So as I mentioned Jason ran down before me.. which I didn't mind.. who am I to stand between him and his beloved fireworks? Its really funny how much he thoroughly enjoys them! Anyways I was in the elevator on my way down and there was a woman and her little girl in the elevator with me. The woman was holding this little girl on her hip and they were talking about the fireworks. All the sudden the little girl started making a fuss and then GUSH.. she peed everywhere! I almost died! The poor mother was mortified and quickly opened the elevator door and ran out.. I didn't know what to do.. I mean did that really just happen?

Now here is the big question.. can I get the video I took to upload here.. I don't know because I have never had luck with uploading anything but pictures but I am sure going to give it a whirl because I think it is worth sharing!

I would also like some bonus points for two blogs in one day! You can take it away if I cant get the video to work, and if I don't then I will do some reading as to how its done!

Happy Monday!!

I think it worked!! Who knew it was so easy!!! ENJOY!
