How it all Started...

Good Tuesday Afternoon All!

It was my intention to post yesterday about just how I got started blogging, but when I received the new pictures of the house I just had to share, so I thought today I would get back to my original intentions and tell you all why I decided to blog!

As you all know Jason and I travel all the time, and as you can imagine it can be really hard to keep all friends and family in the loop as to where we are and what we are up to. I've always tried my best to utilize all means of communication to keep in contact with everyone but it definitely gets hard. I learned in moving away that in moving away relationships don't always last, some people need more than emails and phone calls and as much as I might not always like it I have to respect it. It also gets a little difficult when we have jobs and face things like major time differences like we did in Alaska.

When we left North Carolina to move to Anchorage, Alaska because it was such a long drive and everyone wanted to be kept in the loop every night when we would stop at a hotel I would send a group email to friends and family letting them know where we were, the time changes we encountered, state lines we crossed, events of the day and share any pictures that I took that day! Even though the days were long and tiring the emails became lengthy and everyone was responding with hilarious and heart felt replies.. it was great!

We arrived in Alaska and Jason started work the next day, it was my job to get on the apartment hunt as we were advised not to pick something online or over the phone like we usually would, having something to move into upon our arrival. The task seemed daunting but it also gave me content to continue the group emails that everyone seemed to enjoy so much. One week in Jason was working, we had an apartment and was moving in and I had a job.. fabulous news for us.. but truth be told our day to day life is really not all that exciting so the content for emails were lacking. Everyone seemed super disappointed that they would no longer be getting the emails so I tried to think of a way to keep everyone in the loop at the same time but not feel obligated when there was really nothing to tell... enter blog idea.

Truth be told I love to write, I always have. In high school journalism was a huge thought as a career and honestly I still kick myself for not pursuing it (yes Mom you were right). I figured a blog would be a great way for me to write, with no real obligation but when something arose worth sharing and it would also be a GREAT way to inform everyone in the same place of the same things rather than sending a thousand emails all with the same content. Lets be honest that's really how communication diminishes, its really hard to sit and write 10 emails all with the same content but different random side remarks, its ridiculous!

I absolutely love blogging about our adventures, sharing pictures and keeping our friends and family informed of where we are and what we are up to. Our life in Alaska was always an adventure, there was always something going on and pictures to share, something to write about. After Alaska we traveled again, went to Hawaii and then continued to travel before we ended up out here.

When we got out here life was less than exciting, we were living in a hotel, the terms and conditions of Jason's job were back and forth and we had no idea how long we would be out here and unfortunately any amount of time seemed unbearable! I really had nothing to blog about and eventually I started to miss it! I guess in so many ways I had centered my blog around our travels and adventures and with nothing to report I felt like there was nothing for me to write about.

Truth be told life here was quite miserable, that tends to happen on jobs sometimes... Jason works long hours, I work long hours, we never see each other, don't get out often to do anything, time differences from home, I could go on and on. This job is a little different, we are literally in small town prairie hell! If you know me at all you know that I am a city girl through and through.. I don't have any use for small towns at all. I like convenience, coffee shops, malls, book stores, traffic, pubs, drive thrus, delivery at 2:00am, people who are in a rush to get no where just like me!! Knowing that we would be here for a couple of months, that I wasn't going to work and there would literally be nothing to do, I didn't take to that very kindly.

You see when we were first coming out here we were under the impression that quite a few of the people we usually travel with would also be coming out here, therefore I would have friends out here to spend time with during the day, that made the thought of this place tolerable! When we arrived everything changed and not only did we get stuck in the worst apartment ever, the job changed and no one else was coming.. great! I started getting in a rut of being miserable, hating this place, crying all the time, giving Jason a wicked hard time when he would come home when really it wasn't his fault at all. I definitely needed to find something to focus on and in this place of nothing that wasn't going to be an easy task!

I decided to think about the things that made me happiest and blogging is definitely one of them. I did a lot of research on blogs, I had no idea blogging was the phenomenon it is! I was really excited to make changes to my blog and start writing about more of a variety of things! At the time my friend Paula was making changes to her blog and sent me in the direction of Aubrey with Kinch Designs. I sent Aubrey an email and explained to her what I was looking for and what I was hoping to do with my blog! With a week of emails back and forth, my blog became more about me and what encompasses my world and not just about our adventures. I absolutely LOVE the design Aubrey came up with, it makes me smile every time I sign on.

I couldn't be happier with how my blog looks now and the variety of things I can write about. I really love the blog world and connecting with other bloggers through all different forms of social media! Bloglovin' is a great way to follow blogs of all sorts (like mine!!) full of all sorts of information! You can sign on and create an account, research different genres and see what blogs may pertain to that, its fabulous! This morning I woke up to my daily email from Bloglovin' (you get daily emails with all the new posts from the blogs you follow) and I had 49 unread posts! Believe it or not I read everyday, most likely more than once a day!

I love what my blog has become and the world its opened up to me! I love to write and it means the world to me that people stop in and take time out of their day to read about whats going on in my world, what I have to say about things!! For all of you that take time out of your day to drop in and read, THANK YOU... from the bottom of the heart your time and effort doesn't go unnoticed!

Feel free to explore my archives and read back as far as you can, there are definitely some gems of literary achievement in there, let me tell you!!

Before I part ways I have to share a picture of the dinner I made last night. I have been really meaning to start posting recipes I try and pictures of the process, but we were getting ready to travel when I changed my blog originally and sometimes I fall into a rut of making things that we both want rather than trying new things, and then I hurt my shoulder and let me tell you doing anything with one arm is a challenge let alone trying to take pictures of it! I was going to take pictures of this meal in particular but let me let you in on a little secret, cutting a spaghetti squash in half with one hand and a clever is a dumb idea and you will cut both hands, multiple times... don't say I didn't warn you!

So here it is, spaghetti squash with roasted chicken, halved grape tomatoes and garlic... amazing! (Please ignore the picture quality, I didn't take the picture with the thought of posting it, I was just going to send it to my mom.. haha)

Thanks for stopping in, Have a fabulous day!!

Excitement Wins Every Time!!

I got up this morning with the intention of starting to get ready for vacation!! By this I mean making a list of things that I wanted to blog about while we were away with some notes that way I didn't disappear for the whole ten days like I did last time! I always have good intentions but truth be told last time we didn't take the laptop and we were so busy for the whole time I might have fallen short anyways, but this time we have a much more relaxed trip planned (planned being the key word there, you never know what is going to happen) so I'm hoping to be able to drop in here and there at least to let you know how things are going, especially when it comes to house updates!

So today I was going to sit down and tell you all just how it started, my blogging that is. I believe when I first started blogging I might have mentioned what sparked my interest but now that my blog has changed so much and there is a variety of followers I thought that I would back track a bit and give you the real scoop... well I got a little side tracked when I checked my emails only to find a FABULOUS email with house updates and pictures!!! So naturally I really just want to share!

As I've mentioned being in Canada and not being able to be in Raleigh all the time to see the progression we look so forward to pictures and updates. To be honest as the house is progressing and the pictures are coming its almost shocking to see how quickly things are coming together!

Here are the pictures I received today!

This is the view from the Kitchen into the Dining room/Living area! The framing right in front will eventually be our Island!

This is from the corner of the living area facing in towards the kitchen/garage area behind the kitchen and hallway/ flex space to the left.

If I'm correct when you comes up the stairs their is an open space to the left, I believe that is where this picture is taken from. You are looking into the loft area and the door to the master bedroom. To the left there will be a wall separating the loft space from the spare bedrooms, laundry room and bathroom.

MY BATHTUB! I am super excited about the master bathroom and what it will all look like when its complete! To the left will be a walk-in shower and all the shower, tub and floor will be done in a beautiful tile we picked!

I think this view is hilarious, but its great to know we have shingles! Unfortunately the front of our house wont look like any of the others you see in this pictures are we are using a different builder so I cant compare for you! I love the view though, I love that we are on a quiet culs-de-sac! Have I mentioned how excited I am?

There are just no words, the farther along the process goes and the more pictures we get the more surreal it all seems. This is an extremely overwhelming experience, buying/building your own home... putting out an extraordinary amount of money (SUPER stressful), sharing this amazing experience/life milestone with my hubby!

I am officially counting down the days until we leave to get there, and more so until this baby is complete and we can officially move in! I am also looking forward to sharing the process with all of you!

I will leave my "How this all started" post until tomorrow, my excitement just totally overtook my plans and I had to share the house pictures with all of you! I hope you enjoy!

Have a great Monday (is there such a thing?)!

Hello Travel Week!

Greetings from Summer heaven!

Ya that's right I'm saying something good about this place, don't get use to it!! I hope everyone is having a wonderful weekend! For those of you in the States I'm sure may of you are enjoying the last day of your long 4th of July weekend and to you I say.. I'm extremely jealous!

I guess I will back track a little! On Friday I went to the doctor about my horrific shoulder pain. Diagnosis - torn rotator cuff, swollen ligaments and impeached nerves. Ugh!

As you can imagine this is not good news! Its not good news for the obvious reasons and its not good news because he wants me to see an orthopedic surgeon, but he only comes into town once a month or something (so I'm waiting on a call and hoping we will be in town when I can get an appointment) and generally anything with a surgeon is a lengthy process. Truthfully I'm hoping it will go away (yes I know that's not likely) and if it doesn't I hope that it will be the kind of tear that doesn't require surgery! In the meantime he gave me pain killers because right now managing pain is all I can do. I don't particularly like to take anything like that so I'm only using them at night because that's when I find I am in the most pain. Misery!

On a good note Jason had the day off yesterday which always makes me happy! It was an absolutely BEAUTIFUL summer day and we really took advantage! We got up in the morning and went to breakfast at Humpty's, Jason absolutely loves their pan scrambles and fancy coffee drinks with whipped cream! After that we headed to the farmers market which I have been wanting to go to for months and ran around doing errands! It was such a beautiful summer day and because Jason never gets a day off we went for a beautiful drive (I forgot my camera and phone... eek!). When we got home Jason made a fabulous dinner and we got in bed early to watch a movie. Side note: If you are thinking the movie Snitch with The Rock is going to be this fabulous action movie as it is advertised.. that's a lie.

Days like those make me so happy, because quality time for us like that is so few and far between we really do appreciate it.

Jason is back to work today and this week we are getting ready to head back to Toronto on Thursday night! We are taking a WAY better flight than a ridiculous Friday morning, no sleep travel plan! This time we will be in Toronto from super late Thursday night until the following Thursday morning when we will get up super early and head down to Raleigh. We need to pick up my sunglasses in Fayetteville and be in Raleigh Friday morning for 8:00am to meet the contractor for the inspection. Crazy I know but we are planning to drive back to Toronto Friday on account that we really don't know when the house will be finished and this may be our last visit home for quite some time so we want to make the most of it.

I was really hoping to be able to share new house pictures with you but it doesn't look like I will be getting any until tomorrow. I do believe I have one new one that I haven't shared, its not fabulous but take a look!!

So that's our scoop! I have made the effort to download a plethora of new books on my Nook, so keep an eye out for some upcoming posts on the books I'm reading and what I think of them!

I hope everyone has had a fabulous weekend!

I hope everyone is having a great weekend!!

Oh July... You and Your Holidays!

Happy 4th of July to all you lovely Americans! I would love to tell you that this post is coming from me via the beach with a cold beer in hand, but unfortunately that is just not the case!! Can you even believe that I am originally from Canada, and we were in Canada for Canada Day, Jason is American and it is now the 4th of July and we have not celebrated once.. pathetic I know! I plan to make up for it when we go home, a week from today! Better late than never right??

So as of today my shoulder is no better, when I woke up crying (don't look at me like that, it was inevitable) yesterday morning I decided to make a doctors appointment and to my surprise they could get me in tomorrow morning! I've been so bummed about the fact that I cant lift at the gym and I was in such a great place, I'm frustrated that I cant sleep and or do much without pain, so as much as I don't want to go to the doctors that's where I will be tomorrow morning!

However I have to tell you, something good has come from all this. I refuse to just not go to the gym, really if I did that I would only be hurting myself! I may not be able to use my arm but I am more than capable of getting in some cardio! Truth be told since we've been out here I haven't focused much on cardio which is usually my favorite part of exercise! I generally hate lifting and get really discouraged about how "weak" I seem compared to what Jason is lifting, yes that a ridiculous comparison! When we got here the gym is so small and was always so busy that cardio wasn't always an option so I got in the swing of doing back, chest, shoulders, biceps and triceps and truth be told I cant tell you the last time I ventured any sort of cardio at the gym at all...until last night! I miss cardio! It was so great last night to sweat like you only do when on the treadmill, elliptical or bike! The calories burned right in front of you, it was GREAT! Bring on the cardio my friend, bring it on!

Anyways seeings how we aren't at some beach, lake or cottage where we conveniently drank to much last night and could care less what we look like today, I put on make up this morning! I read a ton of blogs and because I love to try different make up products I really enjoy reading what people recommend and why! Mascara is one thing I'm always changing up every time I come close to running out, I'm convinced there is the perfect mascara out there and I just haven't found it yet. So a couple of weeks ago everyone was recommending Maybelline Rocket Volume Express! So because I am always on the hunt and have never tried this myself I figured I would give it a whirl... big mistake!

See that little tiny brush? BAD! I should have known better, truthfully I have tried different brushes before and this one is NEVER one of my favorites but I was convinced that because everyone was recommending it that maybe, just maybe the product itself was so good the brush wouldn't make that much of a difference.. WRONG!

No that is not my eye. But do you see how the top lashes look like spider legs? Hate that! In searching Google for pictures to represent my complaints I did come across a bunch that show perfectly covered, non-clumpy, perfect lashes.. they didn't get it from this product, I would bet money on it! Maybe it has to do with the length of your lashes, thickness, I don't know.. but I'm not impressed. Its unfortunate though because mascara is expensive, especially when you go through a lot of it... and spending a fortune to replace a tube used once is a damn shame! Just sayin'.

Now to the purpose of this post, because I somehow got off on a tangent of holidays and mascara   I am a lover of books, hence there is a section on my blog dedicated to just books.. which has never been used. Truthfully I go through phases where all I will do is read, book after book, day after day and I am so content! I absolutely LOVE to read!! But lately I've been in a slump with reading, I haven't found a fabulous book I want to read, haven't made the effort to download books on my Nook, don't want to buy actual books knowing we are moving and don't have room to take them! So I am asking for your help!

I've been on Good Reads and rated a ton of books and made a list of a ton of books I want to read, and somehow I'm not utilizing it (so if you want to check out what I'm up to on there, feel free to click on my  Good Reads button or right HERE).

I have to be honest with you, part of my problem is that I miss having a book in my hands. Don't get my wrong I absolutely LOVE my Nook, its so practical for us moving around and traveling so often, but I miss a real book in my hands! Maybe if I just got off my tush  downloaded some books and had some new stuff on there I would feel better about things! So help me out, tell me what you're reading! What you've read recently and really enjoyed, what you think I might like!! I would GREATLY appreciate it!!

I hope everyone is having a safe and happy holiday.. maybe even reading a good book at the beach??

Don't Know a Good Thing.. Until its Gone?

Good Evening All!

This post is coming out a little later than I had hoped but my thoughts haven't been processing clearly until about now! Unfortunately my shoulder pain is effecting my sleep greatly and last night I didn't get much sleep at all. I've been the queen of icy hot and the heating pad today hoping that at this point it just doesn't feel any worse tomorrow like it seems to every other day! I'm pretty convinced due to my own research and pain that I've done something to my rotator cuff, this just doesn't feel anything at all like a pulled muscle and I have indeed experienced that before.

But now that I am up and running with clear thoughts I figured I would drop in and post about something that has been on my mind for days! For those of you who are new around these parts I haven't talked much lately about my love for sports! I am in particular an NFL fan, I grew up in a football house and Jason and I both live for football season! We attend games whenever we can and truthfully Sunday football are the best days in our house! Since being with Jason I have really gotten into basketball as well, he is a hardcore Celtics fan and I've grown to really enjoy the game. Unfortunately the Celtics have dismantled their entire team as of last week including getting rid of the great Doc Rivers so what next season holds should be interesting to say the least. I don't much care for baseball on the TV but I love to go to games! Growing up in Toronto I saw a ton of Blue Jays games, Jason and I had the opportunity to go to Fenway Park in Boston, we've been to the new  Yankee Stadium and Tanya and I went to the AWESOME Mets Stadium! Truthfully I like stadium size beers!

In being a sports fan and being married to a true New England Patriots fan I have been following the story of  Aaron Hernandez. I'm not sure how much you know about what is going on with him but let me start by telling you this. Aaron Hernandez is an amazing tight end, at the age of 23 he should be so proud of his accomplishments in his career. Hernandez just signed with the New England Patriots for 5 years at $40 million, with a signing bonus of $12.5 million!!! Did I mention hes 23?!? With Wes Welker being traded to the Denver Bronco's this season could have been Aaron Hernandez year to shine, take the spot light and give it his all like hes so proven hes capable of!! Show the Patriots it was money well spent!!

Instead of celebrating his accomplishments on the field and off (Aaron Hernandez has a fiance and a eight month old daughter) he is in jail being held on murder and under investigation in connection with another murder of 2 men that took place last summer in Boston. Really? I cant help but wonder how (pardon my language) having the world by the ass isn't enough to want to hold on to it for dear life and not screw up in the biggest possible way! Did the money go to his head? Did it make him feel invincible? Did being so young with this much fortune alter his ability to think clearly? Basically what the hell was he thinking?

I have been watching updates for days on the Boston news and I swear the more I hear the worse it gets. Gang affiliations, getting drunk and disorderly in clubs and having to be forcibly removed, domestic issues results in him punching a hole in the window of his home and bleeding all over the place.

I recently saw an old interview with Hernandez where he boasted about being one of very few Hispanics in the NFL and how proud he was of that, and should be. He said that it was so important for him to be a role model, to show people that not matter where you come from you can achieve your dreams... but at what cost? What happened to make those just words and not a way of life? How many people get to live their dream, love their job and never worry about money like him? From where I'm sitting, not many! To take that for granted seems so unbelievable!

I came across THIS article the other day and it amazed me how many athletes have put themselves in positions to lose it all, and over what? The rise and fall.

I know that these athletes are in the public eye and for the most part you have to be skeptical of the information posted on social media sites, however in most cases lets be honest the evidence is staggering.. at this point as much as I would like to believe that Aaron Hernandez is being framed because of his fame and that someone else is responsible for this unnecessary tragedy I somehow don't think that will be the case!

The worse part is, we are all (myself included) focused on Aaron Hernandez and the headlines that revolve around his situation...Being Investigated for two murdersBloody fist 911 callKicked out of bar for pounding Tequila, to throw out a few of today's headlines! We know that he is adapting to prison well, 7000 square foot home to a 70 square foot jail cell. He went from the medical ward where he was being held due to his celebrity status (for his own safety) and is now in a solitary unit where he gets 3 hours free time a day, away from the general population.

Why are we talking about Aaron Hernandez and the fact that hes been so polite in prison and not asking for any special privileges, the importance of keeping him safe when people have lost their loved ones potentially at his hands, if were being diplomatic here he is innocent until proven guilty! What about those families? The sister of Odin Lloyd who received a text message from him just minutes before he was killed letting her know if something happened to him he was with Aaron Hernandez!

Its sad to me that someone can work so hard, probably be further along in life than he could have ever imagined and now its gone and for what? His reputation as a gangsta? Good job buddy, you enjoy your rep in the big house for the rest of your life! The Patriots dropped him and are going as far to disassociate themselves by offering anyone who owns an Aaron Hernandez jersey to come down to the Patriots Pro Shop at Foxboro on July 6th & 7th and trade it in for that of another player! He has lost all of his endorsements, with Puma and the makers of Muscle Milk, those aren't going to magically return.

What makes people take the things in their life for granted the way he obviously did? How many people would give anything to be a 4th round draft pick, a multimillionaire before the age of 25, have a beautiful family?

I guess what I was getting at here in all my ranting is everyone is lucky in their own way, just because you work for something doesn't mean you cant lose it a lot quicker than you got it. Don't spend your days not appreciating the little things because when bad things happen you don't get them back.

Regardless of who did it or why Odin Llyod lost his life, his mother lost her son, his sister lost her brother and I think that deserves recognition.

In keeping with that theme, I will leave you this. 19 Firefighters just lost their lives trying to save others in Arizona this week, this is the largest loss of Firefighters during one incident since 9/11. Their families and communities need our prayers and attention. Please see THIS heartbreaking video of something that actually deserves media attention.

Life is short, hug your loved ones.

Let the Good Times Roll

Good Holiday Monday Lovelies! Well its only a holiday in Canada because today is officially CANADA DAY! I hope that everyone who gets to enjoy the holiday is making the most of it and having great weather for it!

Truth be told Jason and I don't generally get to enjoy many long weekends, we were talking about it last night wondering the last time we did something for a long weekend. When we were first together we rented Sarah's cottage for the first time on Victoria Day weekend, and then the weekend we got engaged was Canada Day weekend and we went camping with Kristy and Rol, but since then I'm pretty sure Jason has worked every long weekend.

Being here has been frustrating to say the least, mostly lonely and with Jason working all the time and there being absolutely nothing to do around here I feel like summer is wasting away and I have waited so long for it! Last year we were in Alaska and we really didn't get a summer at all, we both worked all the time and it was the coldest summer on record in Anchorage so there wasn't much to enjoy anyways. I am always cold and look so forward to this time of year, I seriously couldn't wait for this summer thinking that we would at least make the most of Jason working all the time and that just hasn't been the case.

I haven't been feeling my best this week, mother nature is reeking havoc on my body and pretty much I've been cranky to the point of intolerable! Last night Jason got home a little earlier than usual so we headed to the gym. Last Sunday while at the gym I hurt my shoulder, I went up in weight and while lifting I heard something pop in my left shoulder and felt quite a bit of pain, not like a pulled muscle though. Throughout the week it has just gotten worse and I've been staying away from lifting which is frustrating because I've been feeling so good and improving immensely! I really don't know what I've done to it, but at this point I cant lay on it or anything! While at the gym last night I decided to try lifting again and right away I knew it wasn't a good idea and I was so upset! So instead of crying (which would not be out of character, and truthfully the way things were headed) I decided to go tanning. Jason would usually encourage me to continue to try but I think he could see the frustration on my face so he said he would be ready when I came out of tanning!

I know it seems ridiculous to cry over something so small but when you are making progress and hit a wall its so frustrating! We make the gym a priority and when we went home last time I could see an obviously decline having missed 10 days! So being here and being able to be at the gym but not get an overall good work out bothers me.

Anyways lets move on to something a little more positive! Because Jason was home earlier last night we decided to go to dinner which was great because it never happens and it was a beautiful day! We headed over to Boston Pizza because truthfully there isn't a lot of other options, especially if you are looking to sit on a patio! We had a great dinner, pitchers of beer were their special... SCORE! When we were getting ready for the bill Jason headed in to the washroom and came out and said that a bunch of guys from work were inside, one being someone I haven't seen since we lived in New York, so we headed in to have a drink with them! With this job its always great to run into people you haven't seen in a long time, catch up and have a drink!

After that Jason had said that a bunch of people from work were heading to the beach.. wait.. the beach? There is water around here? and a beach? Clearly someone has been holding out on me! Jason didn't seem overly inclined to head out there but I INSISTED! We absolutely never get out and do something and what says long weekend and summer like beers on the beach?? When we got down there I was so pleasantly surprised, it was actually a really nice spot!

Can you believe Jason didn't want to come here? Although please refer to the third picture from the top as that is Jason in the water approximately 5 minutes after our arrival! It was so beautiful there, most of the people who were there from work were people that I hadn't met and were all extremely nice! They had a huge picnic set up with snacks, a soccer ball that everyone was running around with, people were swimming and having beers.. hello Canada Day weekend!! FINALLY!

We had a really great time, unfortunately it got quite cold (to my standards at least, I was in a summer dress!) so we decided to head out as it was coming on dark! It was so great to get out and meet everyone, enjoy summer and not feel like the long weekend was such a waste! On the way home Jason spotted the car wash was still open and because the truck hasn't been washed in a dogs age and was in desperate need we decided to stop. My job was to spray which Jason soaped and scrubbed... long story short in the end Jason was soaked and I hadn't laughed that hard in awhile! Haha! The whole night was great!

Today Jason is working and I am being lazy and counting down the days until we head out for vacation (10 days!). On top of a great night last night I woke up to this beauty in my emails which really set the tone for my day!

Can you believe the progress in just days?? As the pictures we receive look more and more like a house I feel more and more excited! At this point we shouldn't have to worry about any more delays as the roof is on so regardless of weather they should be able to work! Hopefully Jason will speak with the contractor on Wednesday and he will be able to give us an actual date for our predrywall inspection and we can plan for that! I will definitely keep everyone posted!

Happy Canada Day!
